When you are first referred to hospital, if you are too unwell to get there either by your own transport, public transport or private transport, you should let the doctor know.
If he/she feels that you are entitled to hospital transport you will be asked to see the receptionist who will give you the telephone number to ring.
The criteria for approving patient transport requests has been tightened up recently and is very much medical need only. Each patient is asked a set of questions to determine this need. If the request is turned down, alternative methods of transport will be suggested e.g. bus/train.
Any subsequent visits to hospital should be arranged by the hospital, so please make sure that you notify the clerk at the hospital when arranging your follow up appointment. They can then arrange the transport for you.
