The landscape of the NHS has changed considerably over the last few years, with primary care being tasked with looking after an increasingly older population with long-term conditions and other complex needs, against a background of decreasing GP numbers.
To enable primary care to provide safe, high quality services to residents, the local GPs, in collaboration with Kent and Medway CCG, can now provide GP-led urgent treatment centres across 4 sites (Hythe, Folkestone, Dover and Deal). This service helps us to increase capacity at the surgery as it takes on the demands for on-the-day minor illness appointments in order for us to concentrate more on patients with long-term conditions and more complex care.
We are able to book patients into the service to see a clinician (GP, nurse or physiotherapist) based on their needs, as this is not a walk-in service.
In addition to this, we are able to offer early morning appointments at the practice (prior to our usual opening hours) to provide greater access to patients requiring healthcare.
